Tenth house in Vedic Astrology

The tenth house is the house of karma/duty. This is the house of career and society. It is one of the most important houses in the chart. The significators of this house are Saturn, Jupiter, Sun, and Mercury.

The 10th house is also an upacchya house and as such, this house improves in time. The planets sitting here give better results in time. It’s obvious also… Saturn is one of the prime significators of the house and it gives results in a linearly improving fashion.

The 10th house is the 12th from the eleventh house and the eleventh house is the house of gains. Therefore, a stronger tenth house often means gains come late with a higher amount of efforts. People with a crowded 10th house or malefic planets in the 10th house get a lot of work in life. They don’t get to rest much.

10th is also the house of status. Therefore, an auspicious 10th house gives good reputation among the peers and the workplace. People respect you for your work.

Planets in the 10th house

Sun

Sun is the significator of the soul. It is your natural atmakaraka. When it is placed in the 10th house, it automatically gives power to the 10th house. You shine at work and you find pride in your karma. If Sun is benefic and strong here then you will have natural leadership quality in you. People will respect you and seek your advice.

Moon

This royal feminine planet, governs your mind and emotions. Moon in this place makes you a person who works for social causes. You can be a teacher, or a caretaker. Someone into agriculture, dairy, or similar sectors. You are providing and caring for people. You earn name because of your nourishing quality.

Mercury

Mercury brings a playful energy to this otherwise difficult house. The native may actually enjoy his/her work. It can give professions related to communication, writing, logistics, children, schools, finance, debts, etc. This placement can also signify a very disciplined and structured approach to dealing with a situation, especially if there is an earth sign.

Saturn

Saturn in 10th can be very good yet a very difficult placement. Good because it will tend to improve the karmic position of the native. The native will slowly and steadily build a good reputation in society. Difficult because the native will always be sent in tough situations, where discipline and hard work will become essential. I have seen Saturn in the 10th people work rigorously without much break. If the position is weak then it will cause huge loss to the native’s image and make his/her life very difficult.

Venus

Venus in the 10th house is a good position. The native will enjoy luxurious life on account of his/her work. He/she will find comfort in theirs profession and won’t simply do something for the sake of doing. Social status may rise on account of marriage or partnership if Venus is well disposed. The native may even meet their partner in workplace or may always take their opinion in professional matters.

Jupiter

The 10th house position of Jupiter is both good and bad just like Saturn. Good because Jupiter is a benefic planet and if auspicious may provide the native with a comfortable work environment. Bad because the Jupiter here can make the native a bit lethargic. He/she may not find strength to deal with very difficult situations.

Mars

Mars in the 10th is a very good placement. This planet of fierce energy is ready for any kind of task. They don’t fear challenges in life. For them their life is a battlefield and comfort is not something they seek. If Mars is strongly positioned here then the native will excel at difficult tasks. Professions related to engineering, technology, defense, weapons, energy sector, etc. can be seen here.

Rahu

Rahu in the 10th house gives you a different arena to fight. You love social status and you find short cuts to achieve easy way up the ladder. You can gain popularity among your peers. Here Rahu can even make you delusional to an extent that no amount of success satisfies you. If malefic, like in water sign or 10th lord in the 8th or 12th house, this placement can cause a lot of emotional trouble and challenges in career.

Ketu

Ketu in 10th is not the best for a stable career but it can give you rise through professions like own business, real estate, marketing, community building, etc. This placement gives a lot of breaks in profession and can cause sudden ups and downs. If the lord of 10th house is strong then in time Ketu can give sudden hike in career as well.

These are some generalised results for the 10th house. Please take into account other factors like the strength of the significators, 10th lord, and placement of 10th lord in Navamsa as well!!
