Mental suffering and Moon

The mind is both incredibly complex and deeply mysterious. The way we think shapes our reality, influences our choices, and transforms how we perceive the world around us. A simple shift in perspective can make all the difference.

I have seen two girls growing up in the same family, sharing the same financial circumstances, yet living completely different emotional realities. It’s almost as if they’re experiencing two different worlds.

What is even more fascinating is that the one who enjoys the greater share of the family’s resources is often the one who suffers the most (or at least feels that way) and complains the most.

It makes you wonder, whether our happiness is determined solely by what we have, or by how we interpret our experiences. The mind doesn’t simply reflect reality, it creates the lens through which we see it.

That’s why the role of Moon is magical in a chart. Let’s say you have all planets well placed in the chart but your moon gets badly afflicted. This changes everything!!

You may be living in a posh society. You may have helpers doing everything for you. You may have financial security and good health probably. But with an afflicted and weak moon in your chart, you will not be able to see your blessings.

What is Moon?

Moon, in your natal chart, represents your state of mind. The way you think, feel, respond, and perceive the world is deeply influenced by the Moon’s placement. It reflects your emotional nature, subconscious patterns, and inner belief system. That is why the Moon chart (Chandra Kundli) holds such significance in Vedic astrology.

There is a saying: We become what we believe. In many ways, our lives are a reflection of our mindset. Our beliefs shape our thoughts, our thoughts influence our actions, and those actions ultimately create the reality we experience. Understanding the Moon in your birth chart can therefore offer profound insight into the lens through which you view life and the experiences you attract.

Moon also represents our Mother, motherland, home, security and nourishment. That’s why Moon rules the sign of Cancer which is closely linked to emotions and nourishment. A strong and benefic Cancer sign gives a better emotional response than an afflicted one.

To be honest, a truly afflicted moon is the one which has a compromised Cancer sign and an afflicted 4th house as well. Because these three often function similar to each other.

How to check affliction of moon in natal chart?

Afflicted moon can be seen in birth chart if following criteria are met (the more points checked in your chart, means a stronger affliction):

✅ Moon in Scorpio

✅ Moon in 8th house

✅ Moon conjunction with Ketu

✅ Moon aspected or conjunct with malefics when sitting in the 6th, 12th or 8th house

✅ Moon hemmed between malefics or no planet sitting in 12th or 2nd house from the moon

If only one of the above criteria were met then the affliction is weak but if two or more criteria meet then the affliction is high.

Physical manifestation of such afflicted Moon

While afflicted moon will impact the emotional strength and mental peace of the native, there are certain physical manifestation of such a combination.

  • Strained relationship with mother. If Ketu is involved then the native will probably not be close with the mother or may have ideological differences with her.
  • Either fear or indulgence with cleanliness and hygiene. Many people with afflicted moon are cleanliness freaks. They overuse and waste water as well. Some may completely avoid water and may be very unhygienic and yet form other addictions.
  • Emotionally unsatisfied and very sensitive. They tend to crave for attention and love more than usual.

Remedies for afflicted moon

If you have afflicted moon then you must work on your lifestyle to balance the ill affects of the combination.

  • Improve relationship with mother
  • Practice meditation and yoga for emotional stability
  • Use water as a resource and preserve it! Avoid wasting water.
